Molana Rasheh Red

Extremely Limited Quantities

Named after the prolific Persian poet, Rumi, also known as Molana or ‘our teacher’, this wine was produced from the ancient Persian varietal Rasheh, grown in high elevation vineyards (1,480m) on volcanic soil in Iran, and vinified in Armenia. The wine resembles its namesake emphasis on purity and elegance. It is fresh and playful on the palate with a strong sense of provenance due to the terroir the grapes were grown in. Molana (2021) is dubbed the “most dangerous wine in the world” because its grapes were smuggled from Iran to Armenia for production, defying a 1979 ban on alcohol in Iran. Featured in the Somm: Cup of Salvation documentary, this rare, full-bodied red is made by Vahe Keushguerian with rare Rasheh grapes, creating a rare “wine in exile”.

Vinification: Native yeast fermentation followed by a 40 day maceration to preserve the uniqueness of the grape variety.
